My name is Myssi (Hammond) Rogers, and I am a Wildkat! I graduated from Willis High School, Class of 1988, where I attended from Kindergarten through 12th grade. I suppose you could say that I bleed purple and white.

I have always loved the art of creating homecoming mums; they have always made me think of my youth and all the buzz and excitement that surrounded Friday nights, especially the Homecoming game. In high school, I was a Willis Sweetheart, and I remember Friday nights, the cheers from the crowd when the greatest team on earth scored a touchdown, the sounds from the huddle on the field as plays were called, the band playing “We Will Rock You,” the cheerleaders cheering on the players and getting the fans in the football spirit, the drill team dancing their hearts out under those bright stadium lights. It all holds so many memories for me and all of us, but homecoming was always that one special night that made everything so much bigger and more special than all the rest.

When I started The Mum Gypsy, my daughter (WHS Class of 2023) was making her way through the halls of WHS, and even though they aren’t the same halls I traveled, they are the halls that will hold her memories. Memories of Friday nights, stadium lights, crowds cheering, and all the excitement and spirit of a Friday Night Texas Homecoming game. With those memories, I got to give her a special keepsake to remember all those fall Friday nights under the stadium lights and let her memories take her back to a Homecoming memory of her youth.
